In order to enable gamepad controls in-game for many PC games, an external, input capturing application is required. The following button layout and profile is for use with one such program named 'XPadder'. There is a free version available, but it has been superceded and may have compatibility problems with newer Windows versions.

Note that in order to solve a quirk with the game's controls, the middle mouse button is always 'pressed' along with movement of the virtual mouse (mapped to the right analogue stick). You can adjust Stick zones with joystick mapper to make walking-running process unintentional. Each stick has three zones: low, medium and high. All you need to do is set WASD to Stick, and a button that you need to press along with direction buttons — to a certain zone.
